Patrick Yaw Obeng, Ibrahim Suleiman, Ernest Brako Ofei, and Emmanuel Appiah Kubi have been appointed to lead Ghana’s Paralympic athletics team, with the aim of securing more medals on the international stage.
The Ghana Paralympic Committee (GPC) unveiled the four coaches as preparations for the Paris 2024 Paralympics commence. Ibrahim Suleiman, Ernest Brako, and Patrick Yaw Obeng will oversee track events, while Emmanuel Appiah Kubi will focus on field disciplines.
Mr. Samson Deen, President of NPC Ghana, announced the appointments following a collaborative meeting with the Ghana Para Athletics Association led by Foster Kwartengs and David Tweneboah Koduah, Head of the Technical team of the Ghana Blind Sports Association.
Ghana made its Paralympic Games debut at the 2004 Summer Paralympics in Athens, fielding three representatives across two sports. Nkegbe Botsyo and Ajara Mohammed competed in athletics, while Alfred Adjetey Sowah participated in powerlifting. Despite their efforts, Ghana is yet to claim a Paralympic medal.
In subsequent Paralympic editions, Ghana continued its participation, with athletes competing in various track and field events. For the upcoming Paris 2024 Paralympics, the Ghanaian team will commence training in Boucle Nord de Seine, preparing for para athletics and para powerlifting disciplines.
