The Ghana Police Service has apprehended the driver of a Hyundai truck bearing registration number GS 9018-20 on suspicion of his involvement in an accident with a recently imported train on the Tema-Mpakadan railway line.
The incident occurred during a test run of the train on Thursday, April 18, 2024.
According to a statement from the Police, preliminary investigations indicate that the driver abandoned the truck on the railroad track, leading to a collision with the train.
“The investigation by the Police is ongoing,” the statement affirmed.
Allegedly, the truck driver was on a cement block delivery when the vehicle became stuck on the rail after being unable to pass beneath a bridge.
Minister of Railways Development Peter Amewu has announced that engineers are currently working to repair the damaged train.
