Ghanaian Man Shoots Wife and Himself in Attempted Murder-Suicide

In an unfortunate event in the United States, a Ghanaian man engaged in an attempted murder-suicide with his wife, resulting in his death and leaving the woman in critical condition.

Authorities have revealed the shocking incident originated as a domestic violence episode. This revelation has left the neighbors, including Michael Montgomery, in disbelief, as the couple had never shown any signs of trouble before.

The Columbus police received a distressing report of domestic violence at around 10:36 p.m. in the 4800 block of Glendon Road. Tragically, as officers approached the scene, the situation quickly escalated into a shooting.

Upon arrival, the authorities discovered the lifeless body of 49-year-old Kwabena Michael Amoako, while a 50-year-old woman, who had also been shot, was urgently rushed to Riverside Methodist Hospital in critical condition.

Montgomery, alerted to the gunfire by the couple’s three young sons, described how they sought help immediately upon hearing the argument and the sound of gunshots.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Amoako shot the female victim before turning the gun on himself.

Due to the severity of the woman’s injuries, the Columbus Police Homicide Unit has taken over the investigation. This tragic incident adds to a distressing increase in homicides related to domestic violence in Columbus this year.

Columbus Mayor Andrew Ginther has acknowledged the issue and highlighted that the newly established Office of Violence Prevention is actively exploring measures to reduce instances of domestic violence. He stressed the importance of sharing information and providing support and resources to individuals facing such harrowing situations.

As the community grapples with the aftermath of this devastating event, Montgomery expresses his deep regret, wishing he could have done something to prevent it. He noted no apparent signs of such a tragedy before its occurrence, at least as far as he had observed.
