Namibia has expressed a keen interest in studying Ghana’s digitalization blueprint as part of its efforts to drive its own digital transformation. This revelation came during a meeting between Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Ms. Emma Theofelus, the Deputy Minister for Information, Communication & Technology of Namibia, held at the Jubilee House.

The discussions centered around Ghana’s successful digitalization initiatives, including the issuance of the digital national identity card (Ghanacard), implementation of a digital address system, introduction of mobile money interoperability, and the delivery of government services online. Ghana received praise for the positive impact of these initiatives on the country’s transformation.

Ms. Emma Theofelus expressed Namibia’s strong desire to study Ghana’s digitalization blueprint, recognizing the potential benefits for their own country. By understanding Ghana’s methods and strategies, Namibia aims to implement similar initiatives to drive its digital transformation.

In addition to digitalization, Ms. Theofelus commended Ghana for its successful tourism initiatives, including the globally acclaimed Year of Return and December’s Beyond the Return campaigns. These initiatives have significantly boosted Ghana’s tourism sector, attracting visitors from around the world and contributing to the country’s economy and cultural exchange.

Inspired by Ghana’s success in tourism, Namibia has launched its own tourism campaign called “November in Namibia” with the aim of enhancing its tourism industry and attracting global visitors.

The meeting between Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Ms. Theofelus underscores Ghana’s growing international recognition as a leader in both digitalization and tourism. With Namibia seeking to learn from Ghana’s experiences and replicate its successes, Ghana’s digitalization blueprint is increasingly becoming a model for other countries to follow.
