After a video showing students using toilet cubicles as dormitories at the Ghana National Senior High School (GHANASCO) in Tamale went viral on social media, the Ghana Education Service (GES) has directed the Headmaster and Senior Housemaster of the school to step aside.

According to GES, while the school has an additional capacity for 300 students, only 1467 out of 1790 vacancies were filled. This incident has raised concerns about the school’s management and safety of its students, but the GES urged parents to remain calm and emphasized that their children’s well-being is of utmost importance.

In response, the GES has instructed the Regional Director of Education to investigate the matter and report back within two weeks. In response to this incident, the GES assured all stakeholders and the public that student safety is paramount and promised to prevent similarly unfortunate incidents.
