Two individuals were killed by burning in Assin Breku, the capital of Assin North in the Central Region. On Thursday, July 13, 2023, unknown attackers assaulted a 63-year-old woman in her room with machetes, causing severe injuries.

The woman attacked with a machete is currently undergoing treatment at Assin Fosu’s St. Francis Xavier Hospital. Upon learning of the incident, the local youth initiated a search for the suspects.

Eventually, an angry mob apprehended two individuals believed to be responsible for the assault in a nearby bush, despite the police. The mob subjected the men to severe beatings before setting them on fire.

According to residents, the suspects were unfamiliar faces in the community, leading to speculations that they were hired to attack by unknown individuals. The Tufohene of Assin Breku, Nana Kotroka Frimpong Baah, attempted to intervene and save the suspects but was prevented by the enraged mob.

The hasty execution of the suspects has raised concerns among some residents. They believe the pursuit of quick money has influenced the younger generation, pushing them towards such criminal acts. Kwabena Appiah, a resident, expressed his worries about the prevalence of materialism and its negative impact on the youth.

In the meantime, the police have taken over the investigation into the incident. The deceased bodies have been transferred to the St. Francis Xavier Hospital morgue for autopsy and preservation.

Currently, no arrests have been made in connection with the case.
