Justice Gertrude Torkornoo’s nomination garnered approval from Parliament on Wednesday, June 7, 2023. Today, on Monday, June 12, 2023, she was sworn into office at the Jubilee House. During the ceremony, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo emphasized that appointing Justice Gertrude Torkornoo as the Chief Justice of Ghana was an easy decision, given her exceptional qualities and aptitude for leading the Judiciary. President Akufo-Addo expressed utmost confidence in Justice Torkornoo’s extensive 19 years of experience, which he believes will benefit her as the 15th Chief Justice of Ghana, succeeding Justice Kwasi Anin Yeboah.
President Akufo-Addo stated that Justice Torkornoo possesses all the attributes to inspire public confidence in the Judiciary, reaffirming her capability to fulfill the crucial responsibilities of her new position.
