The audit report of transactions between the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) and Strategic Mobilization Ghana Ltd. (SML), conducted by KPMG, has been presented to President Akufo-Addo.
This action followed a documentary by the Fourth Estate, which alleged that SML received significant sums from the state with minimal to no work accomplished. In response, the President authorized KPMG in January to conduct an emergency audit of the GRA-SML transactions.
The Ministry of Finance initiated the contract to enhance revenue assurance across the minerals and metals value chain, as well as upstream and downstream petroleum sectors.
Eugene Arhin, Director of Communication at the Office of the President, announced in a statement on Wednesday, April 2, that President Akufo-Addo would soon announce his decision after reviewing the report.
“The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, received from KPMG its report on the audit conducted, at the behest of the president, on the transactions between the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) and Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Ltd (SML),” the statement read.
“President Akufo-Addo is studying the findings of the audit report, and will, in due course, make his decisions known to the Ghanaian people.”
“On January 2, 2024, the President appointed KPMG to audit the contracts between GRA and SML and directed the Ministry of Finance and GRA to suspend contract performance pending the submission of the audit report, including any payments envisaged under their terms,” it further stated.
