Prominent lawyer Akoto Ampaw, who represented President Akufo-Addo in the 2020 election petition, has sadly passed away. Sources have confirmed that he died in the early hours of Friday, October 20, at the University of Ghana Medical Center (UGMC).
It has been reported that the lawyer had been unwell since the beginning of 2023. The bereaved family is expected to issue a press statement at a later time.
The late Lawyer Akoto Ampaw was known for his criticism of the Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill. He argued that the bill aimed to unjustly criminalize support for the LGBTQ+ community in Ghana and placed restrictions on discussions about LGBTQ+ issues, which he believed went against the spirit of the 1992 Constitution.
