The Minister for Health, Hon. Kwaku Agyeman-Manu, informed Parliament that the deteriorating conditions of the facility drove the decision to demolish La General Hospital. He clarified that the demolition was undertaken to pave the way for constructing a new 160-bed facility.
During his appearance before the house on Tuesday to address questions regarding the La General Hospital demolition, the Health Minister assured Parliament that the contractor has demonstrated sufficient commitment to initiate the construction, which is expected to be completed within 24 months.
In response to the Minister’s statement, the Member of Parliament for Tamale South, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, expressed disappointment, asserting that the Minister’s remarks did not instill confidence in the residents of La and the Ghanaian population.
