Morgan Heritage lead singer Peter Morgan is dead

Peter Anthony Morgan, the lead vocalist of the Grammy Award-winning Jamaican reggae band Morgan Heritage, has passed away at the age of 46, as reported by The Associated Press.

His family confirmed the news through a statement on the band’s social media platforms. The statement did not disclose the cause of death, and information about his survivors was not immediately provided. Describing him as a husband, father, son, and brother, the statement conveyed the family’s grief.

Known by the moniker “Peetah,” Mr. Morgan co-founded Morgan Heritage with some of his siblings in 1994. The band collaborated with Bobby Digital, a highly influential Jamaican producer, on early albums such as “Protect Us Jah” (1997) and “Don’t Haffi Dread” (1999).

In 2015, Morgan Heritage clinched the Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album of the year with their album “Strictly Roots.” Two years later, their album “Avrakedabra” earned a nomination in the same category, although it ultimately lost to “Stony Hill” by Damian Marley, the son of Bob Marley.
