MTN Board Strategy Session

In Accra, MTN Ghana hosted a two-day strategy session for the Board of Directors and members of the Executive Committee from the MTN Group.

Leading the delegation was Mcebisi Hubert Jonas, Chairman of the MTN Group Board, accompanied by CEO of the MTN Group.

The retreat in Accra allowed the team to engage with stakeholders in Ghana, reaffirming MTN’s commitment to its partners and the enduring relationships it has cultivated over the years.

As part of the engagement, MTN Ghana organized a Stakeholder Dinner attended by various stakeholders from the private and public sectors, including government ministers and leaders of state institutions. The distinguished guest of honor at the event was Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

Notable figures in attendance also included Ken Ofori Atta, the Minister for Finance, and Ama Pomaa Boateng, the Deputy Minister for Communication and Digitalisation.

During the function, key speakers such as Vice President Mcebisi Jonas, Board Chairman of MTN Group, and Dr. Ishmael Yamson, Board Chairman of MTN Ghana, emphasized the theme of strategic partnerships and their pivotal role in fostering shared value and driving sustainable growth.
Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, in his address, commended MTN for their strategic partnership in advancing Ghana’s digitalization efforts. He expressed optimism about the country’s recovery and prospects, highlighting the government’s commitment to structural transformation in traditional and non-traditional sectors.

Acknowledging the global challenges and uncertainties, including the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, Mcebisi Hubert Jonas, Chairman of the MTN Group Board, stressed the importance of long-term partnerships between governments and companies like MTN to propel African growth and innovation. He called for rethinking partnership models beyond mere regulation and control, fostering collaboration, and supporting national development agendas while safeguarding shareholder value.

Echoing the need for a strong collaborative relationship between government and business, Dr. Ishmael Yamson, Board Chairman of MTN Ghana, emphasized that such partnerships should be grounded in the belief that business and society share a symbiotic relationship. He underlined the responsibility of enterprises to society and the reciprocal impact on their long-term viability.

As part of their visit, members of the MTN Group Board also conducted field visits to the market, familiarizing themselves with the work of customer agents and gathering insights from traders and customers who utilize MTN’s services.

MTN’s visit to Ghana aligns with its strategy to foster and strengthen collaborations and partnerships in the countries where they operate, emphasizing the collective effort necessary for long-term socio-economic growth.

Creating shared value is one of the four strategic priorities outlined in MTN’s Ambition 2025.
