The Minister for Food and Agriculture, Bryan Acheampong, has sought to clarify his recent remarks about the upcoming December 2024 elections, which have sparked controversy and been criticized as incitement to violence.
During an interview on Metro TV, the Abetifi MP explained that his statement about the New Patriotic Party (NPP) winning the election “by all means necessary” was misquoted and misinterpreted.
While on a campaign tour in Nsawam over the weekend, Acheampong had stated that the NPP would retain power using any “means necessary.” However, he emphasized that his comments were not intended to promote violence or suggest that the NPP would engage in unlawful activities to secure victory.
“I never said what they are accusing me of,” Acheampong clarified. “I was simply stressing that, as a political party, our goal is to win the election, and we are doing everything within legal bounds to achieve that.”
The Abetifi MP expressed confidence in the NPP’s chances of winning the election, citing the government’s performance and the party’s strong support base. “We have a natural core support base, and the government’s performance speaks for itself,” he stated. “The NDC is trying to undermine the NPP to gain votes, but we are confident that we will win.”
Acheampong reiterated that his statement was not intended to be interpreted negatively. “When I said the NPP will win, I meant it because I know how hard the government has worked,” he concluded.
