The staff of the National Identification Authority (NIA) have petitioned President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to remove Professor Kenneth Agyemang Attafuah from his position as Executive Secretary of the Authority.

On July 1, 2024, over 920 staff members signed and submitted the petition to the Presidency. They cited reasons such as unfair labor practices, violations of the SSNIT Act, a poor corporate governance structure, selective and unjust administrative practices in recruitment, placement, and promotion of staff, and a lack of innovative ideas for managing the Authority.

The staff claimed that under Professor Attafuah’s leadership, there have been unfair dismissals, staff interdictions exceeding three months, and non-payment of acting allowances. They also alleged that he has failed to improve conditions of service for staff since he took office in 2017.

Additionally, the staff accused Professor Attafuah of violating the SSNIT Act by not paying SSNIT contributions for contract staff over a certain period.

They also criticized the absence of technical directors in most directorates, which has led to operational challenges and industrial disharmony.

The staff urged the President to remove Professor Attafuah to restore staff confidence and improve the Authority’s reputation.

The petition was also sent to the Chief of Staff, the Vice President, the Minister of Interior, the Minister of National Security, the Minister of Employment, the Secretary-General of the Trades Union Congress, and the Governing Board Chairman of NIA.
