Parliament has issued a summons to the National Security Minister, Albert Kan-Dapaah, requiring his presence before the legislative body on Thursday, November 9, 2023. The purpose of this summons is for the minister to provide the house with a comprehensive briefing on the reported military attacks on residents of Garu and Tempane in the Upper East Region.
The alleged military assault resulted in the hospitalization of more than 50 individuals, with claims that the military personnel were responsible for the disturbances that occurred in Garu over the past weekend. It is suggested that this military action was taken in response to an attack on National Security operatives by a vigilante group in Garu.
In response to the demands made by Members of Parliament for an official inv
estigation into the situation, Andrew Amoako Asiamah, the Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, presiding over the proceedings when the matter was raised, directed the National Security Minister to provide a detailed account of the events to the lawmakers on November 9, 2023.
He stated, “At the moment, what I want to do is to invite the Minister to appear before the entire house, come and brief us. Probably what we are hearing is different from what the Minister has at his disposal. So let us invite the Minister to appear before the house; he will come and brief the house, and we will proceed from there.”
“Therefore, I am requesting that the Minister appear before the house on Thursday, the 9th of November 2023, to brief the house regarding the issues pertaining to the incidents in Garu and Tempane.”
