The government has declared that comprehensive plans are in advanced stages to address the needs of physically challenged individuals nationwide. This announcement comes in response to recent protests staged by physically challenged toll workers at the Ministry of Roads and Highways. The workers were demanding the release of their withheld salaries following the discontinuation of toll collection.
Contrary to the claims of the protesting group, the government has refuted any outstanding debts owed to them. Addressing the issue on the floor of Parliament, the Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwasi Amoako-Attah, emphasized the government’s dedication to improving the circumstances of physically challenged individuals.
Minister Amoako-Attah assured the public that a definitive statement on the welfare of disabled persons in the country is imminent. He revealed that ongoing discussions would not only address the concerns of those who previously worked in toll booths but would extend to encompass a broader spectrum of physically challenged individuals. In emphasizing the government’s commitment, he also acknowledged that those who had the privilege to work in toll booths were treated in accordance with the terms of their contracts.
