President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo attends summit

The President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has departed for Cuba at the invitation of the Cuban President, H.E. Miguel Mario Diaz-Canal Bermudez. The purpose of this trip is to participate in the G77+China meeting, themed “Summit of Heads of States and Government on the Current Development Challenges: The Role of Science, Technology, and Innovation,” scheduled to take place from September 15th to 16th, 2023, in Havana, Cuba.

Subsequently, President Akufo-Addo will attend the 78th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in Cuba from September 17th to 22nd, 2023, where he is scheduled to deliver his statement on Wednesday, September 20th, 2023.
Following this, at the invitation of the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Dr. Rafael Mariano Grossi, President Akufo-Addo will travel to Vienna, Austria, on Monday, September 25th, 2023. His visit to Vienna will encompass participation in the 67th regular session of the General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency and the commemoration of the 70th Anniversary of the Atoms of Peace Speech on September 26th, 2023.

Accompanying the President on this trip are the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, and officials from the Presidency and Foreign Ministry.
President Akufo-Addo is expected to return to Ghana on Wednesday, September 27th, 2023. During his absence, in accordance with Article 60(8) of the constitution, the Vice President, Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, will act as President.
