The Odomna family, hailing from Ekumfi Otuam and Ekumfi Asaman, has once again initiated a thorough inquiry into the ambiguous circumstances surrounding the untimely demise of the late former President, Professor John Evans Atta-Mills.
During a visit to the Jubilee House today, Nanahemaa Enyimfuaa III, the Kyidomhemaa of Ekumfi Traditional Council and Queenmother of the Odomna Family, along with Abusuapanin Kobina Biney, the Head of the Odomna Family to which the late President belonged, expressed their concerns. They emphasized that even after a decade since the esteemed Professor’s passing, the family remains in the dark as none of them has been privy to his autopsy report.
Nanahemaa Enyimfuaa III conveyed the family’s ongoing distress, stating, “It is a constant burden that no family member can confidently provide an answer to the simple question of how and why the late President died, and indeed, what specific medical conditions led to his demise.”
She continued, “To date, we, as a family, are unable to ascertain if the doctor had reported a broken arm, neck, or any particular medical issue that caused his death. I, therefore, appeal to you, Mr. President, on behalf of my stool and the entire family, to assist us in obtaining the autopsy report of President Mills. This would allow us to comprehensively explain to our family and future generations what led to President Mills’ death and put to rest the ambiguous circumstances surrounding his passing.”
The family expressed gratitude to President Akufo-Addo for restoring the dignity of the Asomdwee Park, where the former President is laid to rest. Abusuapanin Kobina Biney, the Head of Clan, highlighted the neglect suffered by the park, noting that it had become a haven for petty drug peddlers and individuals with mental health challenges.
In addition to seeking closure on the late President’s death, the Odomna family also appealed for employment opportunities for the youth in the area. Furthermore, they expressed the traditional authorities’ willingness to allocate land in Ekumfi Otuam for the construction of a memorial in honor of their departed relative and former President of the Republic.
