On his birthday, the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, received a surprise visit from Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. Turning 104 years old, Sheikh Sharubutu was honored with a customary early morning visit at his residence in Accra. During the visit, Vice President Bawumia commended Sheikh Sharubutu for his contributions to peace and harmony in Ghana. The President and the First Lady had also paid their respects to the esteemed religious leader earlier in the day.

Dr. Bawumia acknowledged the blessings of Allah upon Sheikh Sharubutu, stating he is blessed to reach this new age. To be 104 is a blessing from Allah. He further expressed gratitude for the gift of Sheikh Sharubutu to the nation and the Muslim Ummah, emphasizing the role of the National Chief Imam in fostering tolerance and peace in Ghana, which he described as the most peaceful country in West Africa.

The Vice President highlighted the numerous achievements and developments in Zongo communities under Sheikh Sharubutu’s leadership, including initiatives such as the Jubilee House Iftar and the Zongo Development Fund, which has brought over 400 projects to Zongo communities in Ghana, ranging from Astro turfs to clinics, classrooms, drainages, and scholarships for studying abroad.

Dr. Bawumia expressed gratitude for Sheikh Sharubutu’s life and leadership, stating that he is grateful to God for his life and all he does for the Zongo community. He added he hopes he lives forever, but either way, the energy is happy to celebrate his 104th birthday while they look forward to his 105th birthday.

As a gesture of appreciation, Vice President Bawumia presented a symbolic birthday cake to Sheikh Sharubutu and requested special prayers for the Chief Imam. Sheikh Sharubutu expressed his gratitude to Dr. Bawumia for a visit, considering it an expression of gratitude.
