The 2nd General Assembly of the Conference of Speakers and Presidents of African Legislatures (CoSPAL) concluded on October 27, 2024, in Accra, Ghana, where Ghana’s Speaker of Parliament—a respected legislator known for his commitment to democracy and parliamentary reform—was re-elected as Chair. His re-election reflects strong support for his leadership among African legislative leaders as they gathered to shape strategic priorities for the continent.

During the two-day assembly, delegates adopted a revised CoSPAL constitution and held elections, affirming Ghana’s Speaker as Chair for another term. He will work alongside five regional Vice-Chairs and a Secretary-General.

The second day included discussions on updates to the CoSPAL Secretariat, the Host Country Agreement, and key administrative matters, such as membership subscriptions. Delegates also explored ways to elevate CoSPAL’s visibility and strengthen collaboration with inter-parliamentary organizations and the African Union.

The assembly concluded with a communique outlining plans for the next General Assembly, setting a unified path for legislative advancement across Africa.
