Following the Ghanaian government’s decision to introduce taxes on lotteries and sports betting, some sports fans in Ghana have expressed mixed reactions. Parliament approved three bills on March 31 to generate more revenue: income tax amendments, excise duty amendments, and growth and sustainability amendments.
Implementing these bills will enable the government to secure the IMF deal and improve the country’s revenue situation. Among the new tax laws is a 10% withholding tax on winnings from lotteries, sports betting, and games of chance.
Before the Presidential assent, concerned punters have resorted to social media to voice their apprehension over the potential impact on their earnings.
