President-elect Bola Tinubu departed Nigeria for Europe on Wednesday afternoon, two weeks after his return from a three-country tour that included London, Saudi Arabia, and Paris. The purpose of his visit is to refine his transition plans, programs, and policy options in consultation with his key aides.

In a statement issued and signed by Tunde Rahman, it was explained that the trip was necessary to provide Tinubu with the opportunity to carry out certain tasks without unnecessary pressure and distractions. The statement emphasized that he intends to utilize this visit to fine-tune his transition plans, engage with investors, and discuss potential business opportunities and a favorable regulatory climate with key allies.

During his time in Europe, Tinubu has scheduled meetings with representatives from various sectors of the business community, including manufacturing, agriculture, technology, and energy. The aim of these meetings is to showcase Nigeria’s readiness for business under his leadership, fostering mutually beneficial partnerships that focus on job creation and skills acquisition. Reviving the country’s economy is a significant aspect of Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda, and this visit underscores his commitment to re-establishing Nigeria’s global economic importance and empowering its substantial youth population.

Notably, prior to his departure, Tinubu met with House of Representatives candidates endorsed by his party, the All Progressives Congress, namely Hon. Tajudeen Abbas for Speaker and Hon. Benjamin Kalu for Deputy Speaker. They were introduced to him by a Joint Task Team of the House.

Tinubu is expected to return shortly to commence preparations for his official inauguration as the 16th President of Nigeria on May 29, 2023, demonstrating his determination to hit the ground running and engage with global stakeholders in critical economic and security matters.
