Two individuals are in critical condition, fighting for their lives after suffering severe burns due to electrocution in Jei Krodua, located in the Awutu Senya District of the Central Region. The incidents occurred as a result of contact with a high-tension power line owned by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), each in separate circumstances.

Local residents revealed that they had raised numerous complaints with the ECG regarding a broken electricity pole, but the company consistently delayed in addressing the issue. Despite the community’s appeals, the ECG failed to cordon off the area or display any warning signs of the potential danger.

On November 21, 2023, a young man who had visited the area suffered severe burns after coming into contact with the high-tension cable while attempting to ease himself. He was promptly transported to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra, where he is currently undergoing treatment.

The following morning, residents investigating a loud explosive noise discovered that an adult scavenger collecting recycling materials had also been electrocuted. This second victim was swiftly rushed to the hospital for medical attention.

An eyewitness emphasized the gravity of the situation, expressing the belief that sustaining the lives of the victims would require grace and mercy. The incidents underscore the importance of prompt action and preventative measures to ensure the safety of individuals in the community.
