Water crisis solution nears Completion

5

The MCE for Keta, Emmanuel Gemegah, has stated that the water crisis affecting Anyako and surrounding communities will soon be resolved with the commissioning of the Anyako water project. According to Gemegah, this project will provide a daily supply of 60,000 litres of water to Anyako and nearby areas. He highlighted the previous unsuccessful attempts to address the water problem and the community’s reliance on unsafe well water.

However, with new leadership and management at the district assembly, efforts have been intensified to secure clean water for the people. Through hard work and exploration, a 120m depth borehole was successfully drilled, yielding 2,000 liters of water per hour. Unfortunately, the water was saline, causing the implementation of reverse osmosis and declinator membrane systems to remove the salinity and increase the water yield.

Gemegah expressed optimism that the long-standing search for drinking water in the area will finally come to an end, allowing life to return to normalcy. The Anyako water project has incurred an expenditure of ₵320,000.00 and is expected to be commissioned in July, potentially by Vice President Dr. Bawumia.

The residents of these communities are overjoyed at the prospect of having a consistent water supply after years of enduring water crises.
