In the battle for the final qualifying spot in the betPawa Premier League, two former Premier League teams, Techiman Eleven Wonders FC and Bofoakwa Tano FC, will collide in what promises to be a fierce showdown at the Accra Sports Stadium. The match is scheduled for Tuesday afternoon, with kick-off set for 3 pm.
Both teams have dominated their respective groups in Zone One of the Access Bank Division One League, and the victorious side will join Kpando Heart of Lions (Zone 3) and Nations FC (Zone 2) in the top-tier league. Kpando Heart of Lions and Nations FC secured their places by triumphing in their respective zonal competitions earlier this month. Eleven Wonders are determined to swiftly return to the elite competition after suffering relegation last year. At the same time, Bofoakwa, a once formidable force, are eager to reclaim their place in the top division after being demoted after the 2006/07 football season.
Bofoakwa Tano FC exhibited a spirited performance in the second round of the Zone One B league, breaking away from their closest challengers, Young Apostles, in what initially appeared to be a two-horse race. They won the competition with an impressive 63 points, establishing a commanding 15-point lead over Young Apostles.
In today’s playoff, Bofoakwa will rely on their forward, Sakaa Dauda, who finished the season as the joint top scorer of the zone with nine goals, a feat he achieved alongside Amponsah Aveo of Berekum Arsenal and Bismark Kyeremeh of Wamanafo Mighty Royals. Dauda will be the focal point of their attacking prowess.
Eleven Wonders emerged victorious in their zone, overcoming tough challenges from Debibi United and Steadfast FC to clinch the top spot with 52 points from 28 matches. They finished five points ahead of Debibi United.
The Techiman side boasts the leading goal-scorers in the zone. Andrews Kumah (10 goals) and Osman Zackaria (eight goals) are expected to spearhead their attacking efforts in this afternoon’s encounter in Accra.
