Kiefer Sutherland explains why he wants to return to 24 as Jack Bauer

Kiefer Sutherland isn’t ruling out the possibility of reprising his iconic role as Jack Bauer in the hit TV series 24. The actor expressed his openness to the idea in an interview with ET at the premiere of his new Paramount+ series, Rabbit Hole.

“I’ve always said that I would be interested in doing it,” Sutherland said. “The real question for me is always about the script. Is there something there that I feel is worth telling that doesn’t feel like we’re doing it because we can or because it will make money?”

Sutherland played the character of Jack Bauer, a counter-terrorism agent, for nine seasons of the series, which aired from 2001 to 2014. The show was a huge success, with Sutherland receiving critical acclaim for his performance and earning several awards for his portrayal of Bauer.

Since the show’s finale in 2014, there have been talks of reviving the series, with Sutherland previously expressing his interest in reprising his role. In the interview, he noted that he has spoken to the show’s creators about the possibility of a return.

“I’ve talked to [executive producer] Howard Gordon and [writer] David Fury about it, and we’ve all said that we would love to do it if it was the right thing,” he shared.

While there are no concrete plans for a 24 revival, fans of the series can take comfort in knowing that Sutherland is open to the idea. In the meantime, viewers can catch him in his new series, Rabbit Hole, which follows a group of friends dealing with the aftermath of a tragic event.
“I’m excited to be part of this cast and this production,” Sutherland said of the new show. “It’s a very different show for me, and it’s been exciting to work on it.”
