Kwabena Agyei Agyepong Displeased with Gov’t Support for Bawumia’s Camp

One of the contenders for the flagbearer position in the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, has expressed dissatisfaction with the unfair advantages enjoyed by Vice President Dr. Bawumia due to his incumbency and indirect support from the party machinery ahead of the party’s Presidential Primaries.

The former General Secretary of the NPP stated the party is not providing equal opportunities for all contenders, which is highly unjust. During an interview on Accra-based Peace FM, he accused the party executives, expected to remain neutral, of extending various forms of support to the vice president, while President Akufo-Addo remains indifferent.

Agyepong advised the party leadership to allow Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia to campaign solely on his own merits, just as other contenders are doing, to create a fair and balanced platform for all. He further alleged that some party members are compelled to join the Vice President’s campaign.

“Dr. Bawumia has held the position of Vice President for seven years and possesses his own strengths. Therefore, they should allow him to conduct his campaign independently. It is challenging for us to source our campaign funds, whereas the Vice President is fortunate due to state resources (such as vehicles and fuel). They should let him run his campaign without such logistical support,” Agyepong stated.
He also appealed to President Nana Akufo-Addo to recognize the situation and to ensure a level playing field for all contenders.
