The Public Services Workers Union (PSWU) of Ghana has temporarily suspended its indefinite strike, which began on October 15, 2024. This decision follows a directive from the National Labour Commission (NLC) instructing the union to end the strike and enter negotiations.
PSWU’s General Secretary, Bernard Adjei, issued a statement explaining that union leadership has agreed to pause the industrial action to allow time for negotiations as stipulated by the NLC. The statement, however, cautioned that if these negotiations do not meet expectations within the specified timeframe, the union will resume its strike without further notice.
PSWU members, particularly those on the Single Spine Salary Structure, have been instructed to return to work on Monday, October 28, 2024. The PSWU has informed relevant stakeholders, including the Chief of Staff, Ministers of Employment and Labour Relations, National Security, and Finance, as well as the Secretary General of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) Ghana, of the decision.
The union emphasized its commitment to safeguarding members’ interests and vowed to take firm action if negotiations prove unproductive.
